attendance
Good attendance at school is crucial for a child to succeed.
What the law says:
Schools are not permitted to authorise requests for the following reasons:
- Any extended leave during term time without exceptional circumstances.
- If extended leave is taken without the head teacher’s permission, or if your child fails to return on the agreed date, this will be recorded as unauthorised absence i.e. truancy.
What the head teachers will do in considering a request for leave of absence:
- Consider each request for absence on its own merits, bearing in mind the above statement. Only in exceptional circumstances will absences be authorised.
- Consider whether this absence is long enough to invoke a penalty notice. A child cannot have more than 9 SESSIONS unauthorised absence at any time (the equivalent of one school week).
